That is, those with steep debt have about as much saved for retirement by age 30 as those with very little student debt. It seems that student loans just play an outsize role in people’s head. It’s worth taking out student debt if it’s going to result in a more lucrative and fulfilling career. If student loans are distracting you from that, it’s worthwhile to consider if you can afford to contribute more.
