Sudan and Ethiopia agreed to open a new page in relations and close the differences between them, during a lightning visit by Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed to Khartoum yesterday, which ended a months-long rift, resulting from skirmishes between the two armies in the Al-Fashqa border area. In a joint statement, issued after the meeting of the President of the Sudanese Sovereignty Council, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, with Abi Ahmed, the two sides confirmed that they agreed to address bilateral issues through dialogue and understanding, including border issues and the Renaissance Dam, based on the existing mechanisms between the two countries, in the interest of the two countries. The two peoples and the relevant parties, in a way that opens the door to a comprehensive integration between the two neighboring countries, continuous consultation in all bilateral aspects, and coordination of positions on regional and international issues. Abiy Ahmed, who met the parties to the Sudanese conflict, declared his government’s full support for the framework agreement signed between the Sudanese parties and rejected any external interference, indicating that he had no new initiative or proposals related to the ongoing political process in Sudan.
