This is the fourth time in history that Democrats have won the popular vote but lost in the Electoral College. Pressure is growing on members of the Electoral College to refuse to vote for the winners of their states. The Electoral College is undemocratic? The creation of the Electoral College was certainly part political pragmatism. In a pure democracy, people could vote to enslave their neighbors, confiscate others’ property, deny rights to minority groups and outlaw unpopular positions.
