We’ll get to the cooking soon enough, to the brats and Fudgsicles, the sheet cakes and fried chicken. But let us not forget why we are here today. To honor Memorial Day this year, my colleague Lauren Katzenberg of At War wanted to recognize the children of fallen service members. So she collected five handwritten letters from children, ages 7 to 22, addressed to parents who lost their lives in war. Please read that before you head out into the world to spread joy and deliciousness on this, the unofficial first day of summer.
