Steven JenningsAnother place in this house of treasures which Favourite lovers will recognize is the long gallery--originally built for the landed Cecil family to exercise during cold English winters. Visiting the Jacobean house can also get you get close to the first Queen Elizabeth through two iconic masterpieces of painting that hang on its hallowed walls. Two paintings of a majestic Elizabeth hang in the stately home: The Rainbow Portrait and the Ermine Portrait. The two portraits are joined by scores of other minor masterpieces that hang in Hatfield House (today the home of Robert Gascoyne-Cecil, 7th Marquess of Salisbury). Downstairs in the Victorian era kitchen you'll find needlework crafts (a favorite past time of Queen Bess herself) and those iconic Elizabeth portraits on postcards.
