We will hunt you down and make you pay.”That response has come in the form of a confirmed drone strike. It remains to be seen whether this was the US’ swift reaction to save face, or whether it is treading down its old path of drone strikes in the region. US statements have indicated that this could be the first of many reprisals at ISIS-K targets for the terrorist attacks at the Kabul airport. This will further change the geopolitics of the region—it is now in both the Afghan Taliban’s and the US’ interest to target ISIS-K.
