The PNP earlier announced that Ocampo, Castro, and their group, which includes pastors and priests, were nabbed on Wednesday in Talaingod for allegedly recruiting children to “rally against the government.”The police further said they have been charged with child abuse, kidnapping, and failure to return a minor during their solidarity mission there. “We at DILG strongly condemn all forms of child trafficking and exploitation in the country and will make certain that all those guilty for these abhorrent acts against the vulnerable and innocent will face the full judgment of the rule of law,” Año further stated. However, Commission on Human Rights chairperson Chito Gascon earlier explained that the group of Ocampo went to Talaingod for a humanitarian solidarity mission to give aid to lumad schools and teachers in the area and investigate alleged cases of human rights violations. Año also assured the public that the Department will continue “to protect and save the children from the claws of violence and abuse.”
