MANILA, Philippines — Former military chief Gen. Eduardo Año has been appointed as undersecretary of the Department of the Interior and Local Government. Immediately after Año's retirement, President Rodrigo Duterte appointed the former Armed Forces of the Philippines chief to the DILG. On Thursday, Duterte announced that Año will assume leadership of the DILG in 2018 when the one-year ban on appointment of retiring military officials to government posts expires. The president said that the former military chief may take the title of special assistant to the president or an undersecretary while waiting for the ban to expire.
