Learning is always fun at any age," said Hirata in an article published by the Yomiuri Shimbun newspaper. Hirata was born in Hiroshima on September 1, 1919, and served in the navy during the Second World War. After the war ended, he worked as a security guard in a Takamatsu hospital until his retirement in the 1980s. If I'm still in good shape at the time, I will consider going to graduate school," joked Hirata, who has two children, five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
