The Peel Regional Police have released one of their occasional pleas for people to use the 911 emergency phone number appropriately and responsibly, this one with a recording of a customer who called about an issue with her bank. It wasn’t a robbery in progress; she just wanted the phone number. In the call, the operator picks up the call and asks if the caller needs police, fire or ambulance services. “I need the bank on the Westwood Mall’s phone number.”In her defence, the caller is quick to apologize when it’s explained to her that 911 is for life-threatening emergencies or crimes in progress. “Close to half of those calls were 911 misuse or hang-ups.”The police website includes some other useful 911 tips.
