more-inRAMANATHAPURAMKenikarai police have seized 79 kg of sea cucumbers, protected under Schedule I of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, from a van, which was found abandoned after an accident. After the van met with an accident, the driver had abandoned the vehicle and fled from the spot. The van was owned by R. Kanimozhi of Thuthivalasai near Uchipuli, the police said. The decomposed sea cucumbers were handed over to Forest Department personnel, and they destroyed them after obtaining orders from the local judicial magistrate court on Sunday, the police said. The forest personnel registered a case and were investigating after seizing the van, the police added.
