MANILA, Philippines — At least 76 percent of senior citizens in the National Capital Region are now fully vaccinated against COVID-19, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) reported yesterday. MMDA Chairman Benhur Abalos said 89 percent of senior citizens have received their first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. Despite the surge in the number of infections, Abalos said vaccination is still the key to prevent the transmission of COVID-19 cases, especially the more contagious Delta variant. Because of the surge in COVID cases, communities need more health personnel for isolation and triaging. More health workers are also needed in hospitals,” he said.
