Of the 17,206 soldiers buried at the Manila American Cemetery, more than 3,000 were classified as unknown soldiers. The Manila American Cemetery is the biggest American cemetery for World War II veterans outside the US. Visiting US Coast Guard commandant Admiral Karl Schultz will join a US delegation attending today’s commemoration of the Leyte Landing. “My goal for the US Coast Guard is to be the partner of choice in the region. We are proud to be operating with our Philippine partners to ensure a free and open Indo-Pacific region,” Schultz said.
