FILE - Government removed an illegal building on agricultural lands- Press photo/ Minister of Water Resources and IrrigationCAIRO - 9 July 2020: About 6,000 cases of illegal building and encroachment on agricultural land were referred to the military prosecution in the period between March 25, 2020 and July, 7, 2020, said Minister of Local Development Mohamed Shaarawy on Thursday. According to a report submitted by Shaarawy to Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli, a total of 14,964 illegal buildings, including 7,214 violations on state-owned land, were reported in the above-mentioned period. The report also revealed that a total of 21,449 violations by building on arable lands were reported in the same period. Construction is banned on agricultural lands even if privately held. The suspension includes licenses for modifications in the buildings like adding floors and expansions.
