Some low-security prisoners will be moved from Invercargill Prison to Otago Correctional Facility to help consolidate the prison population in the network into fewer units. Sixty Invercargill prisoners will be temporarily moved to the Otago Correctional Facility to deal with the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic. As of December 15, there were 111 prisoners at Invercargill prison. While prisoners were being moved between units and prisons, no units were being closed or decommissioned, Marsh said. In December, Corrections outlined a proposal to move Invercargill Prison to remand only.
