6 soldiers killed, 6 wounded in Samar clashBy The Manila TimesSIX soldiers were killed and six were wounded following an encounter with New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in Samar, a military spokesman said on Tuesday. The slain soldiers were identified as Cpl. Edgar Abing; Private First Class Arthur Garcia; Private First Class Rufino Paster Jr.; Private Danilo Constantino Jr.; and Private Elben Lagrimas. Reynaldo Aragones, spokesman of the 8th Infantry Division, said troops were on combat patrol in Barangay Buluan in Calbiga when they received reports about the presence of New People’s Army (NPA) rebels in the village of Beri. Aragones said the NPA rebels were reportedly extorting money from residents in the area.
