6 soldiers die in Kashmir avalanches

Srinagar, Jan. 26 (PTI): Six soldiers have died in two separate avalanches in Jammu & Kashmir, the Indian Army said on Thursday, even as heavy snowfall kept the Valley cut off from the rest of India for the third consecutive day. Three soldiers died when an avalanche struck an army camp in the Gurez sector on Wednesday. “The search operation enabled rescue of one JCO and six soldiers while the bodies of three soldiers could only be retrieved only today morning,” the army’s Northern Command said in a twitter post. Air traffic to Kashmir remained suspended for the third consecutive day Thursday. Most parts of Kashmir division including Ladakh continued to reel under subzero temperatures with Leh being the coldest recorded place.
