The 6-hour nationwide hartal called by the left-leaning parties protesting a rise in power tariff is underway. The Communist Party of Bangladesh, Socialist Party of Bangladesh, and Democratic Left Alliance of Bangladesh enforced the hartal around 6am. Leaders of left-leaning parties have brought out a procession from Shahbag around 8 am and gathered near the Press Club area. With the increase in electricity prices, the prices of essential commodities, including house rent, will be increased.
