6.0-magnitude quake off Davao Oriental rocks Davao City


MANILA, Philippines —Davao Oriental was hit by a 6.0-magnitude on Wednesday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported. It was felt at Intensity IV in Davao City and San Josefa, Agusan del Sur. Instrumental intensities showed Intensity III in Alabel, Sarangani; Intensity II in General Santos City, Kiamba, Sarangani, Kidapawan City, Gingoog City, and Tupi, South Cotabato; and Intensity I in Cebu City, and T’boli, South Cotabato. Philvolcs said this was an aftershock of the magnitude 7.2 earthquake that struck Davao Oriental on Dec. 29. The eastern part of Davao Oriental is within the 1,200-kilometer long Philippine Fault, a seismically-active fault line that has generated significant earthquakes in the past.
