5G a game-changer: DoT officials


more-inThe upcoming 5G (fifth generation) technology will transform India for the better, provided standardisation takes place, remarked officials of Department of Telecom (DoT), Government of India. They were addressing a gathering of experts and researchers at a session on ‘5G Initiatives in India and Telecom Standardisation: Role of TSDSI’ at IIT-Hyderabad as part of the 24th National Conference on Communications. “India will embrace 5G technology and be a leader in early, pervasive and cost-effective deployment. Our target is to achieve 250 billion 5G end points at an average cost of $0.5 and 50 million access points at an average cost of $200,” N. Sivasailam and R.K. Pathak, officials from DoT, said. 5G technology, they pointed out, will bring about a major societal transformation by massive expansion of the role of information technology across the nation in commercial, education, industrial, health care agriculture and financial sectors.
