So, it’s no surprise that the sixth edition of the Yahoo Sports Technology Awards (STA) saw a diverse range of entrants at the Roundhouse in London last night. Aspirationally dubbed the ‘Oscars of Sports Technology', winners included huge sports organizations like Formula 1 and Cricket Australia, technology behemoths like IBM and Intel and lesser-known names like mycujoo. Fierce competitionCricket Australia’s coaching app saw it win ‘Best Technology for Participation’, while Intel and La Liga’s wide-ranging tie-up saw them win ‘Most Innovative Sports Partnership’. Discovery and Eurosport won ‘Best Sports Broadcast’, fending off competition from FIFA TV’s World Cup coverage, Sky Sports’ Augmented Reality (AR) studio, and Fox Sports and BBC Sport’s VR efforts. “The Yahoo Sports Technology Awards is now unequivocally the sector’s ultimate accolade and is recognized as a mark of excellence internationally,” added Hopkins.
