55th Halberg Award nominations revealedCOMPOSITE IMAGE: GETTY IMAGES Black Ferns wing Portia Woodman, Team NZ helmsman Peter Burling and All Whites striker Chris Wood were all instrumental in their teams' generally winning efforts in 2017. Beauden Barrett, Lisa Carrington and Tom Walsh lead the 71 nominations the Halberg Foundation has received for the 55th Halberg Awards. 2016 Halberg Supreme Award winner Carrington is nominated with Caitlin Ryan in the hotly contested Team of the Year category. Seven nominations have come in for the Halberg Disabled Sportsperson of the Year award, including four-times winner Sophie Pascoe. Nominees for the Disabled Sportsperson, Sportsman, Sportswoman and Team of the Year categories will all be eligible for the supreme Halberg Award – the country's highest accolade for sporting excellence.
