50th New Orleans Jazz Fest opens after brief rain delay

NEW ORLEANS — The gates have opened at the 50th New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival after a brief rain delay. The music started a bit later with the day’s scheduled second acts, including Gal Holiday & the Honky Tonk Review, Balfa Toujours and the J. Monque’D Blues Review. Bob Warren and Neal Adler were at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival to work at a beer tent but took advantage of the delay to get some lunch before fans were admitted. Warren was eating boudin (BOO-dahn) balls — fried rice and sausage — and Adler had a barbecued brisket sandwich. They also tried one of the year’s new items — oyster Rockefeller bisque, which Warren described as “quite exceptionally good.”
