If you have a serious injury and need rehabilitation, chances are you’re going to one of them after you leave the hospital, especially if you’re older. State investigations by the California Department of Public Health routinely flag violations in skilled nursing facilities related to low staffing levels. A family member of mine ended up in a skilled nursing facility in Napa after she shattered her leg last year.
