The Chinar Corps, which is posted in the disputed region, said that the five rebels killed belonged to the Pakistan-based militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba. A violent insurgency beginning in 1989 in Kashmir killed tens of thousands of people, including Indian troops, militants and civilians.
