5 Facts About “September,” Earth Wind & Fire’s Ode To Today


DJ Spinna is hosting a three hour tribute celebration on Sept. 21, 2020 from 7 to 10 p.m. EST on the Earth, Wind & Fire YouTube channel. There, original band members Bailey, Verdine White and Ralph Johnson are expected to drop in and talk to the fans. McKay, originally from New Orleans, left EWF and now has his own group, The Al McKay Allstars. Lyricist Allee Willis worked on the composition for a month or so and wasn’t certain that White’s “ba-dee-ya” hook would work. The group created the song “December” in 2014, riffing off the classic September lyrics: “Do you remember/the 21st night of September?”
