5 Dead in Boat Collision in Georgia, Officials Say - The New York Times

Five people died in a boating collision on Saturday along a river popular with boaters outside of Savannah, Ga., the authorities said. Four other people were injured, among them Mark Christopher Stegall, who was charged with operating a boat while under the influence and booked into the Chatham County Jail, said Mark McKinnon, a spokesman for the Georgia Department of Natural Resources. Mr. McKinnon said he did not know the conditions of the other two injured people. Those injured were taken to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, Ga. A hospital spokeswoman declined to comment on the patients’ conditions. The U.S. Coast Guard and local emergency medical services said at least one person was in good condition.
