Mattingly knows the Marlins’ model for success is built upon pitching, solid defense, timely hitting, and winning close ball games. Mattingly was impressed with right-handed pitcher Yimi Garcia and how he handled high pressure situations late in ball games. He does believe widespread vaccination is an important part of Major League Baseball’s recovery and plan to achieve a long overdue return to normalcy. He feels Major League Baseball needs to be far more progressive when it comes to building excitement as well as being open-minded regarding changes to rules.
