Police have arrested four leaders and activists of Chhatra League on charges of carrying out a machete attack on an army officer at Subidbazar intersection on Thursday afternoon, leaving him critically injured. Sylhet’s Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Saifuzzaman Hero sent them to jail when the police produced them before it in the evening. The four men are Ward 22 unit Chhatra League’s former president Asaduzzaman Khan Jewel, and activists Habibur Rahman Pavel, Saidul Islam and Maksud Ahmed. Locals took the injured army officer to Osmani Medical College Hospital, from where he was released on Saturday. Maj Aziz’s jeep came under attack when he was crossing the area, police say quoting witnesses.
