353 people killed in workplace accidents in 10 months


According to the data, the highest number of labourers (135) were killed in transport sector, followed by the construction sector (93). A total 80 workers died of electrocution, 33 workers died from falls, and 26 workers died after being crushed under falling machinery and heavy or hard objects. Fire caused the death of 15 workers and 13 workers were killed in earth, wall or roof collapses. A total 11 agriculture workers died in lightning strikes while 10 workers were killed by poisonous gas in septic or water tanks. Furthermore, 10 workers were killed in boiler, cylinder or chemical explosions, 9 workers from drowning and the remaining two workers died of causes not specified in the news reports.
