35,000 civil servants hit by pension policy changeTAIPEI, Taiwan -- Following a government decision on pensions last week, 35,000 civil servants will not be afforded the same benefits given to those employed after them, according to local media. Anger has erupted among some civil servants accepted during 2014 and 2015, as their insurance pension rates during their four months of training were comparatively lower. Former interior minister Lee Yi-yang, currently charged with civil service advocacy and training, stated that the government has made no such plans. At current rates public sector insurance has a higher contribution rate compared to regular labor insurance, which lead to greater overall benefits over time. Some of those affected have called for a mobilization to pressure the government to equalize pension rates during the training period to match those of the latest policy.
