BERLIN, April 4, 2026 (BSS/AFP) - Rescuers in Austria on Saturday found thebody of a Slovak man killed in an avalanche -- the 31st death in thecountry's current ski season, based on a prior toll given by the EuropeanAvalanche Warning Service. The 40-year-old man had been skiing on the slopes of Plattenspitze mountainin the Salzburg region when the avalanche struck Friday. A search had to be suspended at about midnight because of high winds and therisk of more landslides. Rescuers helicoptered to the site on Saturday foundthe body under two metres (6.5 feet) of snow, police said. More than 100 people have died across the European Alps in one of the mostdeadly ski seasons of recent years.
