The Span 5-B (30th span) was installed on pillars 26-27 while 11 more spans remained to be installed, said Engineer Dewan Md Abdul Kader, project manager (main bridge). "Of the 2917 Roadway slabs 594 have been successfully installed and 1105 Railway slabs have been installed among 2951 of such." Once in operation, the Padma Bridge will connect 21 southern districts with the capital and boost the country's GDP by 1.2 percent, according to experts. The main bridge is being built by the China Railway Major Bridge Engineering Group Company Limited.
