3 wounded in Lanao town mayor ambush – The Manila Times


MARAWI CITY: A member of the Philippine National Police (PNP) and two civilians were wounded when unidentified gunmen armed with high-powered firearms ambushed on Sunday the convoy of a town mayor in Lanao del Sur at a highway in the province. Col. Madzgani Mukarram, Lanao del Sur police chief, said the ambush took place at Barangay Gata of Buadiposo Buntong municipality at 11 a.m. when heavily armed men waylaid the convoy of Masiu municipal mayor Nasser Pangandaman Jr.Mukarram identified the wounded police personnel as Cpl. He said the motive for the ambush was not yet known, but that police were investigating the crime and tracking down the perpetrators. Initial police investigation, Mukarram added, showed that Mayor Pangandaman was traveling from Marawi City, Lanao del Norte to Masiu to preside the Municipal Peace and Order Council that day when his convoy was ambushed by unidentified armed men. A team from Special Investigation Task Group would also be activated to help monitor the progress of this case, Mukarram said.
