Three Edmontonians are part of the newest class of appointments to the Order of Canada. The 2021 inductees, revealed on Wednesday, include local composer John Estacio, visual artist and sculpture Barbara A. Paterson, and scholar W. Roman Petryshyn. According to the Office of the Governor General, more than 7,000 Canadians have been invested to the Order. Estacio wrote commissioned works for the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Montreal Symphony Orchestra, the CBC Radio Orchestra, and Vancouver Symphony Orchestra. Some of the research he has completed includes analyzing Ukrainian immigrant contributions in Britain and Canada and newcomer integration.
