3,500 feral dogs get sterilised and immunised in Jammu

To check the adverse ecological impact of stray canine population in the city, the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) has sterilised and immunised 3,500 feral dogs, an official said today. The JMC will organise awareness camps as well as anti- rabies and anti-scabies camps in the areas falling within JMC limits, JMC Commissioner M Raju said here. "Till date more than 3,500 stray dogs have been sterilised and immunised ward-wise in Jammu city and the programme is catching pace due to utilisation of additional infrastructure and deployment of additional staff," the officer said. The commissioner directed that municipal veterinary officer and other officials to conduct raids on illegal pet and bird sellers and breeders. "No advertisements of sale of birds from any unit shall be allowed within JMC limits," he said.
