3,400-year-old city's ruins re-emerge in Iraq after extreme drought

An ancient city believed to be Zakhiku, a major hub of the Mittani Empire that reigned from 1550 to 1350 BC, emerged in Iraq due to extreme drought. A 3400-year-old city, that emerged from the waters of Mosul reservoir, has been discovered in Iraq. The city is believed to be ancient Zakhiku. In 2010, low water levels in Iraq’s Mosul reservoir revealed ruins that have since been identified as a 1400 BC city & palace belonging to the Mittani Empire. The settlement emerged from the waters of the Mosul reservoir early this year as water levels fell rapidly due to extreme drought in Iraq.
