Share TweetBy Ellalyn De Vera-RuizUnemployment among Filipinos has reached 22 percent or about 9.8 million individuals in the third quarter of 2018, up from 19.7 percent or 8.6 million with no job in the previous quarter, the latest Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey results showed. The nationwide survey conducted last Sept. 15-23 with 1,500 respondents found that 22 percent of adult Filipinos have no job in the past three months. The 9.2 percent who were retrenched consisted of 6.6 percent whose previous contracts were not renewed, 1.6 percent who were laid off, and 1 percent whose employers closed operations. The proportion of those who said there will be no change in job availability rose from 24 percent in June to 27 percent in September.
