KOGI state government on Tuesday said no fewer than 22, 240 households have benefited from the Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) meant for the alleviation of poverty among the people. The project coordinator, Kogi State Youth Empowerment and Social Support Operation (YESSO), Mr Noah Alilu, made the disclosure during a one-day interactive forum for the stakeholders of the programme. He said the objective of the project, however, was “to increase access of the poor to youth employment opportunities, social services and strengthened safety net”. He added that previous efforts at alleviating poverty failed because of poor coordination and lack of safety net platform. Other reasons for the failure of previous efforts, according to Alilu, were a poor database, duplication of efforts, poor or lack of impact evaluation and lack of effective targeting.
