Reclamation under the Lantau Tomorrow Vision program could start before 2027, though the mega development plan has been delayed by a year. Lantau Tomorrow Vision, announced in Chief Executive Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor's policy address in 2018, is expected to cost HK$624 billion to make it a reality. That will be by creating through reclamation three islands off east Lantau with a total area of about 1,700 hectares. "Although the government is facing a challenging financial position at the moment, it will still proceed with the development plan as it will support the economy and bring long-term benefits to the society," sources said. With officials said to be guardedly optimistic the funding application will pass, reclamation is expected to start in 2027.
