In a statement sent to HuffPost, the Recording Academy and its television partner, CBS, cited the rapidly spreading Omicron variant of the coronavirus as the reason for the delay. “The health and safety of those in our music community, the live audience and the hundreds of people who work tirelessly to produce our show remains our top priority. The scaled-down event was held mostly outdoors and without a live audience, although nominees, presenters and a small number of media were in attendance.
