Shark attacks around the world decreased for the third consecutive year in 2020 but unprovoked bites resulting in deaths numbered 10, more than double the average of four per year, making last year the deadliest for such attacks since 2013. Globally, only two shark attack deaths were reported in 2019 and four the year before, according to figures. The U.S. led the world in unprovoked shark bites with 33, down from 41 the year before. In the U.S., Florida accounted for nearly half of the confirmed shark bites.
