2019 Budget saga: group cautious Lagos assembly not to impeach Ambode

A group, Lagos Liberation Movement (LLM), on Thursday, urged the State House of Assembly to rescind plans to commence impeachment process against Governor Akinwunmi Ambode, warning that the decision to impeach the governor would be counter-productive. Convener of the group, Comrade Mark Adebayo, gave the warning at a conference which he addressed at the Lagos Airport Hotel in Ikeja, saying Governor Ambode should be allowed to complete his remaining months in office as he still enjoyed the full support of Lagosians. LLM convener wondered why the Lagos State House of Assembly would commence an impeachment process against the governor barely weeks to the elections, saying Section 188 of the 1999 Constitution was clear on what constitutes infractions. This was as he reiterated that the state governor, Mr Ambode had earlier notified the House of the readiness of the 2019 Budget, but the House did not give him attention because it was engrossed in election matters. Lagos assembly is embarking on a voyage that can only be destructive,” he said.
