Here’s hoping that in 2018, we can do better. Whatever else 2018 brings, it will be a reminder of this fact – that change is daily rendering the powerful impotent and making fools of us all. It is against this backdrop that in 2018 we will have to debate the design of our new post-Brexit immigration system. And if that doesn’t convince you, just ask Theresa May. Those who crave stability, security and certainty will not find it in 2018.
