While 2018 was the fourth warmest year on record, British meteorologists are predicting the next five years will be much hotter, even record-breaking. Two US agencies, the United Kingdom Met Office and the World Meteorological Organization analyse global temperatures in slightly different ways. Last year's average global surface temperature was 0.79 degrees Celsius above the 20th-century average, according to NOAA. KELLY HODEL/FAIRFAX NZ 2018 was the fourth-warmest on record, but meteorologists say it's only going to get hotter. But in the long-term, the two agencies strongly agree on the pace and trajectory of global warming.
