The conflict in Myanmar and Yemen hugely contributed to the increasing of incidents of deliberate attack against children. Over the course of 2017, children in Syria and Iraq have reportedly been used as human shields, targeted by snipers and suffered intense bombardments on their homes and schools. Some 27 million children in conflict zones have been forced out of school. The children's agency concluded that 2017 was a "nightmare year" for young people trapped in conflict zones. A new report by the United Nations children's fund finds 2017 has been a particularly brutal year for children caught in conflict, as children around the world have been subject to shocking levels of attacks by the warring parties.
