Tasman dental chain Abano Healthcare’s 2017 intern scholarship for a University of Otago commerce student is due to be announced within a week. Abano chief executive Richard Keys interviewed five students last week and said the successful student would have a "taste" and different experiences at each of the three separate divisions, including human resources, finance, marketing and operations. "They get the opportunity to see all three divisions, they each have different cultures and leadership styles for them to observe," he said. Last year’s intern, Josephine Tan, completed her studies in commerce in marketing and management as well as a postgraduate diploma of commerce in management, then completed her masters. She is now working full-time on marketing projects at Lumino, while one of last year’s unsuccessful applicants was doing a shorter internship programme with Abano, in Auckland.
