An avalanche triggered by the quake at Mount Everest killed twenty-two persons and stranded 61 climbers on the mountain. Then a year ago Mexican climber David Liaño posted some photos, reporting that the Hillary Step had partially collapsed. The Hillary Step is considered one of the most difficult passages to the mountain top along the south-east ridge. The Hillary Step was feared by climbers as a bottleneck with long waiting times to the summit of Everest. The Himalaya is less well studied, but also here glaciers are melting and underground ice thawing, destabilizing rocks and mountains.
