20 killed, dozens injured as trains collide head-on in Italy

20 people died and dozens were injured when two passenger trains collided head-on in southern Italy on Tuesday, a regional official told reporters. "Unfortunately the death toll has risen to 20," said Giuseppe Corrado, the deputy head of the local province. It was not clear how many people had been on the trains at the time of the collision. "We won't stop until we get a clear explanation over what happened," Prime Minister Matteo Renzi told reporters, cutting short a visit to Milan in northern Italy to return to Rome. The stretch of track is operated by regional rail company Ferrotramviaria.
