Police in Long An Province in the Mekong Delta arrested two theft suspects and seized six dead dogs after a long chase Monday. The suspects said they used to steal dogs in the nearby Dong Thap Province and moved to Long An recently. Vietnam is believed to be the second biggest dog meat consumer in the world, with an estimated five million dogs killed and eaten every year. The dog meat trade has been the target of strong international criticism. They will face criminal charges if the stolen dog’s value is more than VND2 million, around US$100.
